Overview:
JunkCycle is a smart waste management and sustainability platform built to help Canadians dispose of junk responsibly, extend the lifecycle of reusable items, and track their personal environmental impact. The platform connects users with reliable haulers for on-demand junk pickup, provides a community-driven reuse marketplace, and encourages eco-friendly habits through a gamified sustainability dashboard.
Problem:
Canadians often face challenges in responsibly disposing of household junk — from not knowing what can be recycled or reused, to struggling with scheduling or trusting waste removal services. Meanwhile, haulers lack a streamlined system to find and manage jobs, while admins face inefficiencies in managing users, job assignments, and escalations.
Solution:
I designed JunkCycle as a mobile-first platform that makes sustainable waste management simple and accessible. The experience was structured to serve three user groups:
Customers – quick pickup requests, reusable item listings, and eco-impact tracking through guided flows and clear feedback.
Haulers – streamlined access to job details, flexible pricing adjustments, and an intuitive dashboard for managing daily operations.
Admins – oversight tools for managing activity, monitoring disputes, and ensuring smooth platform operations.
By prioritizing clarity, accessibility, and sustainability, the design reduces friction for all users while promoting eco-conscious habits. The result is a platform where the responsible choice feels effortless.

Designing with Clarity and Purpose
Every project follows a clear process that balances strategy, creativity, and user insight.
User Research:
During the user research phase for the JunkCycle app, we conducted supervised interviews and surveys with potential users to gather meaningful insights. This feedback was synthesized into three key user personas Customer, Hauler, and Admin to better understand each group's unique needs, behaviors, and pain points.

User Journey:
I have also created a user journey to better illustrate the process of attempting to use the app.

Usability Study:
View Usability Study
I conducted a user testing session, identified recurring themes, and iterated on the design to address these insights and enhance the overall user experience.
Iterations:
I introduced a progress indicator at the top of the flow to give users clear visibility into their current stage and overall journey, reducing uncertainty and making the experience feel more guided and predictable

Results:
After collaborating closely with the JunkCycle team to bring the designs to life, we launched testing and tracked two key success indicators: user satisfaction and overall experience quality. Feedback showed that users found the platform significantly more engaging and intuitive, validating the design decisions and reinforcing the impact of a user-centered approach.”
